Lenovo to invest $800 million into new mobile device development facilities

The world's second (or third) biggest PC manufacturer has announced plans to invest $800 million in a new mobile product-centric facility. Lenovo wants to get closely involved with the lucrative world of smartphones and tablets, promising that several thousand employees at the new base in Wuhan will focus on new mobile devices for both China and overseas. Lenovo's pegged to launch the K800, one the first Intel-powered Android phones, at the end of the month, but this marks a concerted effort to advance both its tablet and phone collections -- and offer up more space for those other side projects.

UFC on Fox?s Three Stars: Nate Diaz, Alan Belcher and Lavar Johnson

The UFC's first two airings on Fox didn't quite live up to fans' expectations. Junior dos Santos' 64-second knockout of Cain Velasquez was almost too quick to appreciate, and the second Fox show featured lackluster decisions. The third try delivered, as the main card filled with exciting bouts and great finishes.

Here are Cagewriter's Three Stars from the weekend. Tell us yours in the comments, on Facebook or on Twitter.

No. 1 star -- Nate Diaz: The younger Diaz brother stepped out of his brother Nick's shadow with a perfect performance ending in the first submission loss of Jim Miller's career, then made the classy move of supporting Miller's nephew's cause. His performance earned him a title shot and a $65,000 Submission of the Night bonus, and his nice gesture won him new fans.

No. 2 star -- Alan Belcher: Not only did Belcher TKO Rousimar Palhares, but he did it like a BAWSE. He jumped into the lion's mouth, daring Palhares to slap one of his trademark heel hooks on before transitioning out and using ground and pound to win. Unlike Diaz and Johny Hendricks, Belcher was not promised a title shot for his performance, but he showed he's ready for the elite of the middleweights.

No. 3 star -- Lavar Johnson: Putting Johnson's bout with Pat Barry first on the Fox card was smart, because it would have been shocking if these two didn't deliver with a knockout in the first round. Though Johnson pulled it off with just 22 seconds left in the round, he did put Barry out with a devastating barrage of strikes.

Polish Architects Build Stereotype-Reinforcing Upside-Down House [Video]

With a last name like Liszewski, I've heard every single Polish joke and stereotype there is. But I'm going to assume that Polish architects Irek Glowacki and Marek Rozanski have just spawned at least one more with this unique tourist attraction they built in Austria. More »

Nate Diaz supports Jim Miller?s nephew after scoring win at UFC on Fox 3

Nate Diaz scored a big win at UFC on Fox 3, submitting Jim Miller in the second round of the main event. Immediately after the bout, Diaz showed excellent sportsmanship. He pointed to Miller's shirt and said to the camera, "Buy those shirts! Support the cause!"

Diaz was referring to Miller's walkout shirt and his nephew. Miller's infant nephew Danny has polycystic kidney disease, and $10 of every walkout shirt sold will be donated to the Danny Miller Foundation to help him and other children with kidney disease. Several UFC fighters have donated memorabilia to auction off to get Danny closer to a kidney transplant, but the family still needs help.

Diaz knew that, and pushed his opponent's cause on national, network television. Diaz's last time on national television involved a post-fight melee that was an embarrassment to MMA. This time, he not only showed off his dominance as a fighter, but also his kindness as a man.

Samsung and AT&T announce Focus 2: LTE Windows Phone on May 20th for $50

Samsung and AT&T announce Focus 2: LTE Windows Phone on May 20th for $50

The Nokia Lumia 900 may be the current leader when it comes to a quality Windows Phone handset on a budget, but Samsung is under-cutting the competition with the newly announced Focus 2. Succeeding the Focus and Focus S, this new handset offers LTE and comes in any color you like (so long as it's white) for the low-low price of $49.99 on-contract. It has a 4-inch Super AMOLED (non-Plus) display up front and a five megapixel sensor in the back, capable of recording 720p video, paired with a VGA camera facing forward. No details on processor memory at this point, but for that price we wouldn't expect to be too overwhelmed. Intrigued? You can sate that curiosity when it hits AT&T stores on May 20th.

Update: AT&T's site now specifies that the Focus 2 will use a 1.4GHz CPU.

Done Deal: Zynga Gets ?Draw Something? Phenom By Acquiring OMGPOP. (We?re Hearing $210M.)

draw-something-bathtubZynga agreed to buy OMGPOP, the maker of massive Pictionary-like hit Draw Something, winning out over several other large gaming companies who had taken a look at the deal. Zynga didn't disclose the price but we're hearing $180 million upfront plus a $30 million earnout. The announcement confirms the original scoop I had on this deal on Monday. So why this price? It's complicated. On the one hand, if Zynga lost, it was probably going to do a "Draw With Friends" anyway. That would have split the available market with OMGPOP, a situation we've seen when Zynga has launched titles like Dream Zoo, Dream Pet House and Dream Tower. Plus, OMGPOP has only had just over a month of runway to evaluate its earnings potential and the mobile gaming market is notoriously fickle. Games that have gone up like Tap Zoo, which held a top 10 grossing rank for about a year, have come down. Also, if you look at the way Draw Something monetizes, it's monetization model is front-loaded with paid app downloads and durable in-app purchases like color packs.
